Beautiful Disgrace By Sammy Disclaimer: I do not own MCR, or Stevie. I do however own rights to Eva, Janine, and other vampires of the fic. This never happened. Enjoy.
01: All the world is waiting for the sun. The streets were dark and damp. The summer air was thick with heat, it was almost hard to breathe. It was almost three am and there was hardly any one on the streets, the odd person staggering home from a club or bar. One alley way contained four figures. One male on his knees, sobs coming from deep inside of him, while two stood under the only light available. One with bright red hair, stared him down with her green eyes. It was hard for her to look tough when she was wearing black high top sneakers. The other male leaned his thin frame against the brick wall, and smirked at the vision in front of him. The last one, was a female and she stood in the shadows, watching the scene with her large blue eyes. "Do you know what is worse than a liar?" The girl with the bright red hair asked, in a hushed but rough tone. "A snitch." The male against the wall stated. The girl in the shadows stepped out, leaving her jacket purposely open so the grovelling male could see her gun. Her high heels made a soft clicking noise on the cracked pavement, crushing the weeds poking thru the cracks ever so carefully. "Vincent, I like you. But you have been telling stories, and we can't risk these secrets leaking out to mortals. They are content in their ignorance and we are even more content with that." The dark haired female said in a soft voice as she laid a pale hand lightly on her gun. A Desert Eagle .50 Calabur, her prized possession. The fear was pouring out of him, she knew him even before he turned, and he still wore crushed velvet suits with shiny cowboy boots. Stevie, the red haired girl, tapped her foot impatiently, and sighed loudly. "Eva, for gods sake just shoot him." Eva glared at Stevie and then looked at Mikey as he grinned showing off his fangs. A trick he never quite caught onto was smiling without showing them off. She rolled her eyes slightly as he adjusted his tie and went to stand by Stevie. "Sorry Vinnie, I have no other choice." Eva said, she held her gun in front of her, she squeezed her eyes shut as she pulled the trigger and over the echo of the gun going off, they heard a faint voice saying "Holy shit." All three vampires turned their attention towards the figure standing on the side walk opposite of the street they were on, it took off running and all three sighed. Mikey started to run after him, when Eva told him to stop, and that she and Stevie would be handling the problem tomorrow. The glow from the tv was all that filled the empty apartment as he sat slumped on the couch as endless paid programs droned on about lonely sexy girls named Candy and Tiffany wanted people like him to call them and only for a mere 5.99 per minute. He pushed himself up slightly and reached forward for a pack of smokes only to discover that the pack was empty. With a half grunt, half sigh he tossed the pack carelessly onto the coffee table and got up off the old green couch to search for his jacket. He decided he would venture out into the night to go to the corner store that was open twenty-four seven. Half way to the store he discovered it was rather too hot to wear a jacket but he didn't bother to take it off, it felt like too much of an effort. As he entered the store, passing by the stand filled with chips placed next to the door, he approached the counter and the tiny Korean girl behind the counter smiled at him and greeted him with an "Hello, Mr. Iero." she looked no older than fifteen. He returned a smile and slight nod. "Red pack." he said, as he searched for his wallet. The girl behind the counter got onto a step ladder and brought down a pack as he mumbled he wanted a couple of scratch tickets as well. He finally produced his wallet and pulled out some money and handed it to her. She smiled as she took the money, and then handed back his change. He smiled back and took his tickets, shoving them into the cramped pocket. He opened his pack of smokes and placed one in between his lips and lit it with his pink lighter before shoving the pack and lighter into his other pocket. He walked down the empty street taking his time to get home when he heard voices, he paused when he heard the words "shoot him". He looked around and his brown eyes fell upon four people in an alley way, one holding something shiny in their hands, it was hard to tell since the only light in the alley chose to reflect off of the object. Then he heard the echo of the gun, and the head of the guy on the ground splatter on the wall behind him. Bits and pieces oozed down the wall as he found his voice. "Holy shit." He soon wished he hadn't spoken when all three turned to look at him. He finally felt the numb feeling wash away as he ran towards his building. Once inside his apartment he slammed the door, and locked it. Staring out the peephole wondering if they had followed him. When he felt the coast was clear he took off his jacket and sat on the couch, waiting for his heart to stop trying to break through his chest. He leaned his head back and before he even considered it, he was asleep. Frank squinted as the morning light came through his blinds, he rubbed his eyes and cracked his bones back into place from sleeping on the uncomfortable couch his parents so kindly donated when he moved out. Memories of last night flooded back into his head and he silently wondered if it really had happened or if it was just a dream as he watched the same paid programs take place on his thirteen inch television. "Mikey was right, we shouldn't have let him get away." Stevie mumbled. Two days had passed since the little incident in the alley way. Both girls sat on a bench outside near the area where it had happened, Eva sighed, "Perhaps our little friend isn't as stupid as we had hoped." "If you witnessed a murder, wouldn't you call in?" Stevie asked out loud, but not loud enough for the mortals around them to hear. "I would, but maybe he doesn't want to get involved." "Maybe you are right, maybe our little friend isn't as stupid as we had hoped." Eva narrowed her blue eyes from behind her sunglasses on to a mortal walking within the crowds in a sweater with the hood pulled up. "Stevie, wouldn't you say it's a bit hot for a sweater. . .especially if you're a mortal?" Eva asked, her eyes never leaving the hooded figure. "Hm, I want to say yes, but it's been so long, why?" "I think I found our friend." Eva replied in a hushed tone. Stevie fallowed Eva's gaze with her own green eyes. Both girls gracefully got off the bench and made their way towards the mortal, trying to keep a distance as to not come across as suspicious. They watched the male approach a building and enter it, the girls sped up their pace which was quite easy for them, but they felt at risk for using their powers in broad daylight. Managing to catch the door before it closed, the girls entered the building, the heat just as thick inside as out, they waited until he was only slightly out of their vision to follow him up the stairs. Their feet made no noise on the old stairs. After a few moments, the girls reached his door just as he had shut it and waited a couple of more minutes before Stevie raised a pale hand and knocked on it. They waited until he opened the door only slightly, the chain on it preventing him to open it more than a few inches. "Can I help you?" he asked. "Hi, we're with the New Jersey crime lab, we...received a tip that you had witnessed a murder the other night on MacEachern street." Stevie spoke up first, leaving Eva in a slightly stunned and impressed state at her speed to come up with such a line. "I-I don't know what you're talking about." He replied, his voice raising slightly. "We just want to ask you a few questions, we promise it wont take up much of your time." Stevie replied sweetly. He hesitated and then closed the door, the sounds of him opening the chain could be heard, he opened the door fully. The girls stepped in and he studied their faces, they looked no older than seventeen. The one in the skirt suit looked around and stepped carefully over a pizza box that was abandoned on the floor. Frank blushed and mumbled that he wasn't expecting any one or he would have cleaned up. Eva gave him a tight lipped but polite smile. Both girls sat gingerly on the couch while he took the chair, the red haired girl started to ask him questions but he was only half listening. He stared at their shoes, he thought it was strange that one was wearing converse sneakers and the other designer shoes. He wasn't one hundred percent they were designer but they looked like they did, plus they didn't look comfortable so he thought they had to be designer. If you're on a job like this why would you wear designer heels and why would one wear sneakers it seemed kind of unprofessional. Eva glanced down at his coffee table, around the empty smoke packs and bottles was his mail. Frank Iero. "Mr. Iero, what did you see that night?" The dark haired girl asked him. He looked away from her shoes and to her face, her sunglasses were now removed and revealed a pair of dark blue eyes. "Nothing really...just...some people in an alley, some guy on the ground and they shot him in the head." "Did you see a gun?" The red head asked. He shook his head no, and both girls looked at each other as though sharing a secret message, when they both stood up he saw their guns, and the image of the girl holding the shiny object came back into his mind. He realized why he didn't seem to think they were professional, and why it was suspicious that they never told him their names. Eva saw the fear and realization flicker in his eyes and she looked at the red head. Stevie had no clue what as taking place until, Frank stood up quickly and stumbled backwards over the chair. Eva wiped out her gun and pointed it in his direction. He froze and Stevie casually walked over and picked him up with ease and pushed him towards the couch. He sat down shaking. "Can I call you Frankie?" Eva asked. He shook his head no. "I'm going to any ways, Frankie, my name is Eva and that's Stevie. We were hoping you would be incredibly stupid and call the cops. You didn't so we had to sit outside and wait, and believe me, we're not fond of the sun." "We don't want to kill you." Stevie said. "So, we're giving you an option, because nothing looks more suspicious than two deaths not very far apart by the same weapon. You come with us and you have a choice of joining us or dying." "You just said you don't want to kill me." He said. "We said didn't want to, but that doesn't mean we wont if we have too." Eva replied. He stared at both females unsure of what to do, "What do you mean, join you? What are you?" "We're immortal. . .we're vampires." Stevie answered. He raised his eyebrows, both girls knew he didn't believe him, he believed they could use a gun, both girls smiled, showing off two rows of teeth and their fangs. "Jesus." He whispered. "You should go pack some clothes, because if I knew I was being forced to stay with people I'd want to bring some clothes...or a book...or condoms." Stevie said. Eva stared at her, one eyebrows raised and a look of confusion on your face. "Stevie, we just told him, if he doesn't join us he will die, and you're suggesting he brings condoms." "Even people who are probably going to die need condoms." "Yes, because when I'm told I'm going to die, the first thing I think of is 'should I bring my studded condoms or my lubricated ones?" "I do." "No, you don't," Frank stared on, unsure if he should be amused since it was the conversation between the girls who were going to kill him. "Who is he going to need the condoms for any ways?" Eva added. "I don't know. . .me, you. . .Janine if she finds out he's going to be there." Stevie replied. "Janine is a stupid whore, she never even learned how to feed she was too busy finding some one to screw." "Again not always a bad thing." Eva sighed and turned back to Frank, "Go pack some stuff, we'll leave at night fall." He stood up unsteadily and went to his room, he considered calling home and screaming for help like they do in the movies, but he figured they're would be a worse result in the matter, so he timidly packed some clothes and personal belongings before going out to the living room, where the red head he had come to known as Stevie was looking at some pictures and the dark haired one was placing her gun on the table and removing her jacket. "Ever consider cleaning." Eva said, it was more a statement than a question. He blushed once more, and looked away when she wouldn't stop staring at him, and it wasn't a stare as if she was waiting for a reply, it was more like she was trying to figure something out. 02: It's easier to lie than to tell the truth By nightfall Frank had never truly believed he would be this uncomfortable in his own living quarters. He sat very still at the far end of his couch while Eva sat on the other end picking at the strings of loose material off his couch. Stevie stood by the window looking down on people, the streetlight making her hair seem even bright than it was. Eva turned her head slightly in Franks direction and lifted her eyes off the bright material long enough to look at him. She looked him over once or twice making him shift uncomfortably on his end of the couch. "Did you buy this couch?" She asked. "No. .My parents gave it to me." He said quietly, he felt his throat tightening from the thought that he might not see his family again. Stevie glanced over at the two on the couch and grinned, Eva looked guiltily at the ground and then swiftly stood up and walked over to the window beside Stevie. "Lets just leave him, we'll tell everyone we couldn't find him." Eva spoke in a hushed tone. Stevie turned her eyes onto Eva and narrowed them before speaking in the same tone, "What the hell are you talking about?" "C'mon Stevie, he has family . . .We can't do this." "Is little Eva going soft on me?"Eva narrowed her own dark eyes back at Stevie before turning away and sitting on the arm of the couch, the silence continued for twenty more minutes, before they heard a cars horn down below on the streets. Stevie left first and Eva pushed Frank towards the door after he hesitantly stood up. She shut the door behind her; she even let Frank lock it up before they left. He looked at her in a sideways glance unsure of what to make of her, once outside they approached a black car and she opened the door and told him to get in, he obeyed with no argument. After Eva slid in after him and shut the door, a guy in the front seat turned around and smiled, he was skinny and had glasses and blondish colored hair. "Is this our kid?" He asked. "No, he's the Iero's kid, but he is the witness." Eva replied, without a word or even a look he turned back around turned the car and on and drove away.Frank felt like the drive was a couple of hours long but it only took thirty minutes, it was on the outskirts of town, they pulled up to a large brick house, it looked like a normal family home with a trimmed lawn and flowers in the front, with a tiny rock path leading to an arch with a tiny door leading to the backyard. All four got out of the car but Frank was a hesitant as Eva walked behind him; he was surrounded by these "Vampires." Inside the house it was fairly dark, the opening held a chandelier and a rather large table with a clear vase contains irises. Stevie took him by the arm and lead him upstairs while the other two entered a room with large oak doors. Frank looked around at the large cathedral ceilings and the details on the trim that was gold colored. Stevie walked ahead of him by a foot and opened a door with keys she retrieved from her pockets. She motioned for him to enter the room and he did, it was decorated in rich dark colors. He stood by the bed, wanting to touch the blankets but didn't. "She's so easy on you." She said from her position by the large dresser. He just stared at her for moment before speaking, "What do you mean?" "She feels sympathy for you, unlike most vampires would, Eva's a rare kind of vampire," She spoke softly.Frank didn't understand so he said nothing in return. "What I mean is, there are three kinds of vampires, there's the kind who when they turn they loose their souls right away they are more rare than common, then they are the kind who's souls die when they were originally suppose to die, so if you turned you would loose your soul when you turned seventy-seven that's the kind I am . . .But then there is this very rare kind, some vampires have immortal souls, Eva is one of those. She feels guilty about what we have to do, especially since your attached to your family." She added. "I still don't understand." He replied. "Eva . . .Is basically like you, but she still feeds on blood and is immortal. Her soul is immortal just like her." He didn't know what to say at this he didn't even believe vampires were real let alone they had souls. Stevie lingered for a few more moments before saying someone would check on him in a couple of hours. She turned to leave when Frank stopped her. "Am I going to die?" "Well, that's up to you Mr. Iero." She said softly before leaving him a lone in the room. Frank sat on the bed, holding onto his bag and letting his left hand touch the blankets the silk felt like a web under his fingers and palm of his hand. He didn't move from his position for nearly an hour when there was a knock on the door, he didn't respond and the door opened a bit before Eva poked her head in. "How are you doing?" she asked. He just stared at her, not masking his look of disbelievence. She sighed before opening the door all the way and stepping inside and glancing about. "I've never been a fan of dark colors, but after being in the sunlight dark colors are much easier on the eyes." She added trying to fill the awkward feeling in the room and his stare on her. "Just kill me already." He said with no emotion. She stared into his eyes with her own dark blue ones he felt paralyzed half fear and half some unknown reason. "We are giving you a week to decide which is quite generous of us since I could break you in half before you even realize it. I'm going to give you plus' and minus' of being one of us, and then in a week from this hour you will tell us your decision," Her voice was calm and soothing, that scared him she could sound like that while she threatened to kill him. "You can't get sick, saves money on health insurance, um, you eat food like you normally would but you do need blood to survive somewhat-I try to go after criminals, how badly will the world miss them really? - You can still have a job and live a fairly normal life, dating is awkward. You can't really be friends with any one . . . That is unless you plan to kill them or turn them." He said nothing in reply and just stared at her these were suppose to be plus'? She closed her eyes and when she opened them and looked at him tears were threatening to spill. "I can't lie to you, I hate what I am . . . and I would trade it for anything in the world if I could but sadly I can't. You can die just like any one else; although the older you are the harder it is. Most crosses don't work unless a priest and holy water have blessed them. As hard as this may be to believe you are lucky we are giving you the chance to decide, I wasn't given a chance," She said it quietly but not quiet enough for him to be left in the dark as to what she was talking about. She walked over to the window beside his bed and sighed, she turned around, and for the first time he realized she had changed her outfit. She was wearing a pinstripe jacket with a pair of pants and a tank top; she took off her jacket and then turned on another light and faced him. That's when he saw the scar; it was rather huge and went from her left collarbone to her shoulder. "When I was seventeen, I was in my yard at night and I was attacked, my siblings and I. He killed 2 of us and left three of us to die, but we didn't die, we turned. No one asked us . . . our parents hid us in shame and eventually they died and we moved on . . . Immortality isn't the most amazing thing, but it is a gift a very nice gift when it wants to be. You're just very lucky you get the chance to decide unlike me." She added before picking up her jacket and leaving the room. Frank still sat on the bed in awe of the situation in front of him; he stared at the floor for a few moments before setting his bag on the floor and curling up on the blanket of silky webs. A couple of hours later a knock was placed on his door and he didn't respond once again, he rolled over expecting to see Eva or Stevie but instead he saw a girl in a lilac corset with a pair of black dress pants, she had long curls the color of honey and eyes the shade of soft yellow rimmed with a shade of mossy green. "I'm Janine, they sent me up to bring you downstairs for supper." She said glancing him over before motioning him to fallow her. In the hallway she started speaking again, he noticed she had an accent, it sounded slightly British, but he wasn't totally positive. "So, you're the mortal that's causing all the fuss in this house?" It was a question he wasn't supposed to answer and he knew that by the sound of her tone. They walked in silence, once they got to the main level she approached large doors and opened one and pushed him ahead of her. He wondered if he was supper, but then he remembered he had seven days, and the dark haired girl mentioned they also eat food. The table in the room - which was lighted up by only candles and a fireplace - was covered in large amounts of food, and flowers. A person filled almost every chair; he sat in the chair beside Eva and stared down at his lap. A male stood up in front of everyone and smiled, and when he spoke his voice was full of demand without him raising his voice, "Tonight, Ladies and Gentlemen we have a guest. He will be staying with us for the week so be nice to him or else." That was all that was said before everyone ate and in silence at that. After dinner almost the entire household left except Eva and Frank. They sat in the library and he kept staring at the scar on her left side, he wanted to touch it but he held no doubt she could hurt him for it. So, he sat there and stared at it until she grew impatient and told him to stop staring. "I wasn't staring." He said so quietly; even with her hearing she had to strain to hear it. "What is your fascination with it?" she asked. "I don't know." He said once again in the same soft tone. "Are you scared of me?" He knew the answer it was 'yes' but he didn't want her to know that so he stood by silence as his option of answers. Eva looked down and sighed. "You should go to bed . . . tomorrow is probably going to be a full day." Was her response to his silence. He wanted to say he was sorry but thought better of it and went to the room given to him. Once in his room he changed out of his clothes and crawled under the comforter to discover the sheets felt like silky web as well. Though he honestly believed that he wouldn't be able to sleep in such an environment he found himself falling into a deep sleep right away. His last thoughts were him trying to imagine what would be taking place tomorrow. 03: Is that you doing that to me, with your stare? Sunlight filtered into the bedroom between the slightly open curtains, Frank let his arm rest over his eyes in order to protect them from the sun. He didn't want to get up just yet, but forced himself to after releasing a loud yawn. He opened his eyes slightly to be greeted by the sight of Stevie half on his bed, propping her self on her elbows, she let her chin set on the palms of her hands. "Good morning!" This wasn't the girl who had come into his apartment, she seemed mean then this girl was smiling showing off her fangs and she had blue striped pyjama bottoms on and a white tank top. Her red hair in a bed of a mess and her green eyes that were lined with smudged black eyeliner was bright. Frank pulled the silk web blankets back over his head and though he said it himself he also said it out loud, 'this isn't happening.' "Wake up Frankie, you need to shower and we have to have a talk!" Stevie said, getting off the bed and pulling the sheets off and away from Frank with no effort. Frank rolled onto his side, blushing from the sudden exposure. "Don't worry, I've seen more of Mikey on the first day him and I met," She said, tossing the blankets on the floor and leaving the room. Only to return moments later, "The towels are in the bathroom connected to your room." She added before leaving to go have a shower of her own and to get dressed. Frank sat on the bed trying to cover up. His white briefs incase anyone felt the need to barge in on him. He stood up and walked around the room, there were three doors aside from the one that lead to the hall. The first one he opened was a closet he peeked in, it was dark and he assumed there wouldn't be much to it so he closed the door. The second one didn't lead anywhere, when he opened it he noticed a brick wall he shrugged and closed the door. When he approached the third door, he opened it to be greeted by his destination, the bathroom. It was large and it contained a large tub along with a shower on the other side of the room, a toilet and a long row of counters and sinks. He crept in, he felt awkward, he wasn't sure if a shower could relax him. He considered the reasons Why while he started to fill the tub. One, this wasn't his house, he didn't even know whom it belonged too. Two, anyone could barge in and he was sure that if they wanted to they could eat him. After the water reached a certain point, Frank stepped out of his underwear and got into the warm water. While he let the water sooth him as much as it could, he felt his eyes getting heavy but after he considered all the reasons not to have a shower closing his eyes seemed just as scary for all the same reasons. He cleaned himself up and then sat in the water until it got cold, then he got out, dripping water on the marble floors. He pulled the plug to allow the water to drain. He walked over to the counter and searched for a big enough towel when he heard the bathroom door open, he turned around quickly trying to cover himself up with a face cloth. Both Eva and Stevie stood there with suppressed smiles on their faces. "We knocked we assumed you heard us." Eva said trailing off. "Unless you did and wanted us to see you . . . This wouldn't happen to be a continuing of this morning earlier events would it?" Stevie asked. Eva tried not to giggle at his sad attempts of covering himself up. "We'll meet you in the hallway . . . sorry." Eva managed to say through her giggles. Both girls backed slowly out of the bathroom and closed the door, he could hear their giggles fade away and he blushed furiously. After he found a large towel, he dried off still unable to forget the scene that just took place only moments ago. He opened the bathroom door before calling out hello a few times to see if anyone was there, and just to be sure he popped out for a second and when he realized no one was there he left the bathroom and went into the sleeping area. He got dressed and went into the hallway. He avoided the stares of both girls and stood there awkwardly. "Fallow us." Eva said, looking him over, repeating the image she saw in the bathroom, and if she could she was sure she would have blushed. They walked down the long hallway and down stairs and walked into a kitchen, they cut through the kitchen pushed open a set of doors only to enter a room with rich dark colors of reds and browns with hints of gold. A long table accompanied by many chairs. Stevie motioned for Frank to sit in a chair, she sat next to him and Eva walked all the way to the other side and sat beside Mikey. Frank watched the silent conversation going on between Mikey and Stevie, he winked at her and she licked her teeth and lips. Eva sat in silence her head turned to the right as she stared at the fire place. The orange glow making her hair shine like a night sky full of stars. All four persons turned their attention to the doors as the guy from supper last night came into the room. "Mr. Iero, I'm Daniel. I am the head of this household, "His voice was thick with an accent as rich as the colors in the room and it was slightly hard for Frank to fallow what he was saying but he got the general idea. "I am at an understanding that you were a witness to an event that had taken place a few days ago, no?" "Yes..." "I just need to hear what happened from you to confirm what Stevie and Eva told me from when they questioned you, I need you to answer as best as you can due to the fact these three are in trouble due to their carelessness." "Okay.." Frank replied trailing off. "What did you see exactly?" "I saw three people in the alley with another guy who was on his knees and one shot him in the head." Frank replied. "Can you confirm it was these three?" "Any . . . I didn't see their faces." "Very well . . . thank you. This will be over looked and we will get back to you, all four of you." Daniel said before leaving the room. All four sat in silence, it was not a grim silence it was just a silence that sat in the air. "So, to my understanding you gave the girls quite a show." Mikey said, being the first to break the silence. Frank blushed and shrugged before slumping in his chair. Stevie stood up adjusting her jacket before saying she had to go attend to some business, a few seconds after Stevie started to leave Mikey said he wasn't feeling too good and he needed to lie down. Eva rolled her eyes at how lame their excuses were to cover up the fact they were going to have sexual relations, she was at least glad they managed to keep it behind closed doors and not in public. She then turned her eyes to Frank. "It's not big deal you know..." "How much trouble are you in?" he asked catching her off guard. "Depends on what the master vampires say." She replied. "Am I in trouble?" "Not really, no. More or less all three of us are . . . but you still have to decide." She said buttoning up her jacket. She stood up and Frank did the same, she stared at him eyebrows raised slightly, before she spoke, "Just because I accidentally walked in on you in the bathroom doesn't mean you can fallow me so I can go pee." "Oh." Frank blushed and sat down, Eva leaving seconds later. Frank sat back down and looked around the room, he was thinking about how calm he felt considering the situation he was in and the decision that was weighing down on him, he sat up straight when he heard the door open, he turned around and saw Eva standing there, she looked very tired and her skin looked dull compared to every other time he saw her. "I need you to go to your room, lock the door and don't answer it . . . I have to leave for just a couple of hours." She said, avoiding eye contact with him. "Okay . . . " If he protested what could he do, she could hurt him. He stood up and she escorted him to his room. In the hall they passed Janine, she looked Frank up and down like a piece of meat and Eva gave her a look that made Janine look away quickly. Once they were in his room, Eva stood awkwardly near the door before speaking, "I'd take you with me . . . but I really don't want you to see what's going to take place. Not that I like the idea of leaving you here . . . Just don't answer your door." Before he could respond, she left the room. In the next three days it seemed to be the usual pattern, Stevie would wake him up, they would eat breakfast, and Eva would take him with her, sometimes to the garden or to a book store, she took him on errands, but usually she would leave him with Stevie and Mikey or in his room at night for a couple of hours. He figured she was feeding since she always looked different every time she came back, her skin always glowed after and her eyes always seemed larger. One evening they were sitting in the library with Stevie and Mikey. Stevie and Eva were play fighting calling each other 'slut' and 'loser.' Mikey and Frank were playing chess, and Mikey was surprised by how good Frank was. Both girls left to get something from the kitchen when Mikey spoke up, "You know . . . tomorrow you have to tell us your decision." Frank paused on his move and stared at Mikey, Mikey was looking at the board his glasses were almost sitting on the edge of his nose. Mikey pushed them back up and looked at Frank. "I-I know . . . " "Do you know . . . what you're going to do?" He asked. "It's not like I have a lot of options . . . die or become a vampire." Frank replied. "It's not so bad, Eva can make it seem worse than it is . . . but she's a different breed." "You make her sound like a dog." Mike laughed, his fangs shining under the lights, "She's not, but she has emotions unlike most of us." Frank nodded, before setting down his piece. Both girls came in, and Frank looked up from the board and at Eva, she was staring at him just like the first night they met. 04: Shame on you for making me wait The next morning Eva opened her eyes to find Mikey standing over her. "Perv," she mumbled in her half awake state. "Call me what you like, but you have to go talk to Frank." Mikey replied before leaving her alone in her room. She laid still for a few moments staring blankly at her ceiling, she got up and had a shower before dressing. She stood in front of her full length mirror staring at her scar running her fingers gingerly over it before turning away disgusted. She left her bedroom, remembering to shut her door and made her way down the hall to be greeted by Stevie and a vampire she didn't recognize. Eva smiled politely at them before continuing to Frank's room so she could speak with him. She lifted a pale hand and knocked on Frank's door once she reached her destination. A few moments later Frank answered it, he noticed the guilty look on Eva's face and he realized what day it was. "Hi. Can I come in?" She asked in a soft voice. He just nodded his head and opened the door wider for her to come in, she stood by his bed, it was the first time he has seen her in anything other than a suit. She looked out of place in her jeans and plain black long sleeved shirt. "I need to know your decision." Frank said nothing as he closed the door, he looked down at the floor and shrugged. "Frank, just say it." He shrugged once more but added, in a voice no human could hear he almost couldn't hear it, "Vampire." "Right, well I'll go tell Daniel, and I'll see you eight o'clock sharp." She said without waiting for a response. She left the large room in search of Daniel. Frank sat down on the bed and stared at the floor, his decision sinking in, it felt like some kind of dream to him. None of it seemed real, vampires weren't real they were fictional characters you dressed up as when you were a kid, they belonged in movies and story books. Not in the real world walking with people like him. It wasn't fair for him to think those things since if he hadn't been in this situation and he had met those three he would assume they were just like him, but thought they were cool because they wore suits. Frank barely noticed when Stevie opened the door and poked her head in. "Frankie, breakfast is ready . . . you coming?" He nodded his head and fallowed her, half way through breakfast Eva joined them, her face was blank and she barely touched her food she also hardly spoke at all and that was she and Stevie's favourite past time, talking about their hunts at night or just making polite chat. Eva barely heard Stevie asking her for the sugar, she just sat there staring at her plate until Mikey nudged her, she looked up eyes wide filled with confusion. "Pass the sugar." Stevie said slowly, before adding a laugh. "Sorry . . . " Eva said quietly before picking up the clear bowl and handing it over to Stevie. Frank stared on in confusion as Mikey and Stevie stared at each other, they normally did not have the same silent conversations. This one seemed different. Other vampires at the table even shifted uncomfortably in their own seats. Without a word, Eva got up from her chair and left the room. Mikey got up and followed her. The room was silent for a few seconds before the other vampires started speaking to one another again. "What is wrong with you?" Mikey said to Eva's back in the hallway. "I can't do it." "What? Do what?" "I can't turn him." Eva turned to face Mikey, and for the first time he had known what he had seen shocked him. Her large blue eyes were filled with unshed tears. For Mikey it was the first time he was going to see Eva cry, but if it had been Stevie it wouldn't have been so shocking. Mickey stood awkwardly staring at the shorter female. He wasn't sure what he was suppose to do, so he inched toward the girl before him. He paused slightly before wrapping his arms around her. When Eva started to cry, he almost let go, but she wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face into his chest. He patted the top of her head with his right hand softly. "You have to Eva." "Mickey, the elders are going to kill us. We were careless." "I promise you no one is going to die." "You can't promise things like that." She whispered. Though it was a bit uncomfortable, still hugging the sobbing figure close to him, he leaned down and kissed the top of her head. Eva sniffled but smiled at the odd comfort from Mikey. Neither had ever been that close, but she knew her and Mikey, along with Stevie had no one else. "I can try," he whispered back. "Just remember at eight o'clock what you have to do." Mickey added. ". . .Every time I look at him, I feel so guilty. He has so much life in him, and I have to take that away." "I know it's hard . . . but when it comes down to it, we can't risk letting him go." "But" Eva was cut off by the sound of a car horn, Mikey sighed. "I have to go, but we'll talk when I get back." He said before giving her a squeeze and leaving her alone in the hallway, and exiting the house. When Eva and Mikey didn't return, Stevie announced that she was going to be taking Frank to get fitted for his suit. Most of the other vampires at the table ignored them, but Janine stared at them a grin playing on her lips. "You would look very nice in red." Before Frank could respond, Stevie cut in, "And you would look nice if you'd keep your legs closed." She stood up and dragged Frank by the arm out of the room. "Why don't you like Janine?" Frank inquired. "She's such a whore." "Is that why?" "She tried to get on Mikey once." "I thought you guys weren't dating." Stevie paused slightly, "We aren't." "Then why do you care?" "I don't." "Are you sure?" "Frank, I could really hurt you, don't make me hurt you." She said as they entered the garage. She got into a car and Frank followed her suit, by sitting in the passenger side. Eva stood in front of the large window in the living room, watching the car Mikey got into leave the driveway, and then Stevie follows suit with Frank with her. She sighed and walked away toward Daniels office. She knocked softly on his door, and she heard him call her in through the thick wood. "Hi Daniel." "Eva, what do you need?" "I can't turn him." "I'm sorry." "I can't turn him. We could let him go, no one would believe his story." "People would send him away to a hospital for the rest of his life. Which do you think is better Eva?" Eva didn't reply, she knew Daniel wouldn't understand. She left his office ignoring the fact he was calling her name. Spending an entire day with Stevie was something new for Frank. She was opposite of Eva, with her bright hair and loud personality. He was surprised she hadn't already given away the fact she was a vampire. She drove both of them around town showing him the vampire district of town. It looked like another part of town. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference. When Frank mentioned that to Stevie, she just grinned and replied with "Wait til you see it at night." Frank wasn't so sure if he wanted to see it at night, Stevie then proceeded to take him out for actual food. The place was near empty, which he found odd. Stevie was too occupied with her food, he stared on in awe as she ate her rare steak like it was a piece of pie. He wondered if that was what was going to happen to him, would he order rare food any chance he got? Once half her steak was gone, she pushed her plate away from herself and licked her teeth. She told Frank to go wait in the car while she payed, since he had long since finished his meal after watching her tear into her food. He felt like child sitting in the car as Stevie came out of the building. They drove in silence as she took him to get fitted for his suit. Eva spent her day hidden in the library reading. She didn't want to have to face anyone. She glanced at the grandfather clock in the large room. Four p.m.. Eva sighed and put her book away before going to the main entrance. Looking out the window Stevie pulled the car in and she got out leaving Frank in the car. Frank slowly made his way to the house, looking even more pale than when he left. Upon entering the house he saw Eva standing by the bay window. He joined her in her staring adventures. Both dark haired characters watched the untouched scenery until a car pulled up. First Mikey got out, and then a male with dark hair but similar face shape joined him. Both paused in front of the dark-haired male's vehicle and they hugged. "Who's that?" Frank asked, his voice in whisper mode. "Gerard, he's Mikey's brother. He lives in the other house." "Other house?" "Some vampires believe we are the superior race, and some believe we are no better nor are we any less. Gerard is one of the first." Eva replied in a hushed tone as both males came toward the house. "Eva." They heard a voice behind them. Both turned around to be greeted by Mikey and Gerard. "Hello Gerard." "Haven't grown much have you?" "I see you haven't become any more mature. How old are you now Gee, five or one hundred years' old?" Mikey stood by and rolled his eyes, he knew Eva and Gee never really got along, but it was always playful banter. "Gerard just stopped by for tea with Daniel." Mikey explained. "Planning on converting there Gerard?" Eva asked, raising her eyebrows slightly. "And live in the same house as you, I'm not asking for a death wish." He replied, removing his sunglasses and leaving the room. Mikey followed in tow just as it always had been. Eva felt uncomfortable being near Frank, but he still didn't look any better. "Are you okay?" She asked, tilting her head to side in the process. Frank nodded mutely, "I think so." "You don't look so good, lets get you to your room so you can rest for a while be" Eva caught herself mid sentence. Frank was just staring at the floor, she grabbed him by the elbow and escorted him to his room. He sat on the edge of his bed as she pulled off his shoes and pulled back his blankets. He climbed under them and she tucked him in. "Eva?" "Yeah?" "Is it going to hurt?" He asked as she put his shoes into his closet. She paused and bit her bottom lip lightly. "I don't know." "Did it hurt for you?" he asked again. She touched her scar lightly before closing the door of the closet, "Frank my turning is different from yours." "I mean . . . Does having a soul hurt more than losing it?" "I really don't know. I'll never loose mine." She said quietly looking at her hands. Eva sat beside him on his bed, "I can't promise you anything, I don't know if it's going to hurt, or if you will keep your soul forever." Frank reached his hand out and almost touched Eva's scar, she got off the bed quickly and left the room. She was shamed of her scars and she felt exposed every time someone tried to touch it. Eight o'clock came sooner than anyone expected, most had left the house to feed. Very few were in the house, and the ones that were sitting patiently in the livingroom. Eva paced outside Frank's door hoping to stall time just a little longer. She lightly knocked on the door and opened it without waiting for a reply. She wanted to get this over with. Frank came out of the bathroom wiping his hands on his jeans. "How do we do this?" He asked. "I've never turned anyone . . . I basically feed." Eva said quietly. Frank sat on the side of his bed and Eva joined him. Both of them opened their mouths but made no noises, they looked at the floor. The thought that this felt like the first time Frank had sex entered his mind, he almost smiled at how awkward it was. Eva stood up and closed in on him, he looked up at her and she said nothing. She just cupped his face in her cold hands and turned his face away from her slowly. Frank closed his eyes and held his breath. She leaned down, and he could feel her breath on his neck. He felt a slight pinching feeling on his neck, the pain spread she pressed her fangs further into his neck. The feeling was intense, and the pain was almost unbearable. For the first time in Eva's life the taste of blood was making her sick, maybe because it was her first turning or she knewit was Frank . . . she wasn't really sure. The pain eased off as she removed her fangs from his neck, Frank felt weak and could barely keep his eyes open. Eva layed him back onto the pillow behind him. She then bit into her own wrist, she watched the blood rise and run down her arm a bit. She held her wrist out to Frank, and she let it hover above his lips. She watched the drips of blood coat his lips, before he attached himself to her tiny wrist. She drowned out everything as he received blood from her. She pulled her wrist away and pressed it tightly against her stomach. Frank layed still, letting the coppery taste lull around in his mouth and on his tongue. He didn't feel different. Then his stomach felt like it was moving like waves. A warm feeling started from the centre of him and spread outwards. Then everything felt cold. He sat up and looked at Eva. She didn't appear different to him, but he stared at her wrist the cuts she gave herself were gone. She went into the bathroom and washed her arm. They went downstairs, to be greeted by five vampires. Stevie clapped and gave Frank a hug. "We are going to have so much more fun now!" Stevie said excitedly. She ushered him up the stairs, talking rapidly about him getting ready so they could all go out and celebrate. Frank didn't talk he just did what he was told. When he and Stevie came downstairs, Eva was already ready to join them. None of them sure of what the night held for any of them. 05: A fail to kiss, is a fail to cope The night air felt hot for once as the group of them headed towards a large warehouse. Frank started to understand what Stevie had said earlier about this area. He could pick out the vampires from the humans. His body still felt tingly. Eva wouldn't look at him. Inside the club the music was loud, and it was even hotter inside. Unlike outside, Frank couldn't pick the vampires from the mortals. Everyone was pressed against one another. They picked a booth near the back, and all slid in. Mikey and Frank left to get drinks. "Why are you avoiding Frank?" Stevie said into Eva's ear. "I don't know." Eva replied, not really looking at Stevie but staring into the sea of people dancing. The scent of sweat was in the air, and a familiar copper yet metallic scent. Eva inhaled deeply, and subconsciously licked her fangs with the tip of her tongue. The Birthday Massacre's Happy Birthday filled the club. Eva stood up and Stevie followed her onto the dance floor. The black tulle of Eva's dress scratched her hands, and the lace on the bodice of the dress tickled her finger tips, but she hardly noticed. She had her eyes closed but she knew Stevie was still in front of her dancing. After a couple of songs had passed by Eva left the dance floor and approached the bar. She needed water. She looked to her left and saw mass of hair, she didn't need to see their face to know who it was. "Ray?" The figure turned and looked at the petit one beside him, "Eva...what a surprise!" "You are not surprised." "I know, Gerard told me you guys were coming tonight." "Oh right, your boyfriend." "He's not my boyfriend." "Much. Do you guys have pet names?" "Do you and Stevie?" "Yes, I'm Ho-Ho and she's Whore-Whore." "Cute." "Do you guys make kiss faces?" Eva asked, puckering her lips. "As much as you and Stevie do." "Nice." "Is that the guy?" Ray asked referring to Frank, who was at the opposite end of the bar with Mikey. "Yeah." "You can hardly pick him apart from the mortals beside him." "He's fresh, tonight." "I take it he's yours?" "Mine?" "Don't play stupid Eva, I can read you better than you think." "No, he's not. He's free." "Has Janine attached herself to him yet?" "No, I think Stevie has threatened her about it." A silence settled between us, but the music quickly filled it, "There must be more mortals here tonight than vampires." "Why?" She asked. "The smell of blood is heavy tonight." Eva looked around the club and noticed there was more mortals than vampires, "Interesting." Eva left the bar and made her way back to her booth, she glanced at a table and saw a pretty red haired girl. Mortal, you could tell by her eyes, she was with a vampire, and he was dragging his nails along her forearm. He was drawing blood and licking it off. She looked away and sat down. "I accidentally drank your drink." Stevie announced to Eva. "How did that work out?" "I drank mine, and then I drank yours. Not as accidental as I had thought." Stevie said peering into the empty glasses. "Nice, Stevie." "I know!" "Where's the other two?" "Mikey went to get more drinks and Frank is dancing with someone." "Oh." "Oh?" "What?" Eva asked. "Just the way you said it." "And how did I say it?" "You sounded jealous. Is Eva jealous of the girl dancing with Frankie?" "No, Eva is not jealous. Frank can do what he wants." Eva said, waving her hand about for affect. "Sure." "Sure?" "Of course you're not jealous, you never get jealous." "Like you don't when you see Mikey around other females?" "Mikey and I know what we have going is just for fun. He can do as he pleases and I can do as I please." "Sure." Eva said smiling at Stevie. The red haired girl ignored her friends comments. "I heard your boyfriend was at the house today." "He is not my boyfriend, he's Rays." "But he was your boyfriend at one point." "Not true." "So true, I don't understand why you two deny it." "I'm not denying any thing, because there is nothing to deny. Gerard and I never dated, nor did we get involved." "Do you two do that act for Mikey's sake?" "Shut up." Eva replied as Mikey came with drinks. He handed one directly to Eva before sitting down. "Didn't want your drink to get stolen this time." He said smiling. Eva gave a weak smile back and Stevie took her drink with a smile. Mikey looked at both girls, "What happened? You two fighting over me again?" "No, I'd win hands down." Stevie said smiling at Mikey. "Oh, Eva, too good for me?" Mikey asked. "Yes. That's it." "She's not too good for your brother." Stevie said taking a sip from her drink. Mikey laughed, "I forgot you two had something." "There was nothing." Eva replied. Mikey and Stevie looked at each other before looking at the brunette in front of them, Mikey replied first, "Of course there wasn't." The night was still young for them, and they had yet to feed. They all slowly left the club, outside was trouble waiting. "Hi Sweet cakes, you want some of this?" A greasy vampire asked Janine, he was fresh, he couldn't tell the difference between vampires and mortals. He had no one to show him. Frank watched as Eva and Stevie slowly reached for their guns. Janine smiled showing her fangs, she swaggered over to him, "Like hell you'd ever have a chance with me." Eva was surprised Janine even had standards. "Don't want to get with a vampire?" his accent was thick, slight chance he was Texan. "I am a vampire. . .sweet cakes." She said sweetly. She rolled her eyes and started to walk away, he grabbed her wrist, Eva had a slight idea how this was going to play out. She didn't realize she moved in front of Frank and slightly pushed him behind her. Janine's yellow-green eyes scanned him, before settling to where his hand was firmly placed. Stevie had to give Janine credit, that she didn't put up with bullshit from most males. She leaned close into him let her free hand go to the back of his neck. The younger vampire smirked, he thought he had Janine where he wanted her. She pressed her lips against his, he was in heaven. Eva closed her eyes and looked away. Janine dug her nails in skin, and into his neck muscles. In one swift movement she had ripped out his spine. Franks eye widened in fear and disgust. Janine pulled away and sighed as she dropped his spine beside his crumpled body. She walked over to her house mates and smiled. "Ready to go feed?" She asked looking at everyone with a smile on her face. Frank just stared at her as though she had two heads, she had ripped somebodies spine out and acted like she had just come back from a walk. No one replied, they just all turned away and walked. Eva had to drag Frank along with them. "Oh no, I got blood on my shirt. I'll have to go home and change. I'll meet up with you lot later." She said before disappearing into the shadows of the night. Was this the real side to vampires, or just Janine, Frank wondered to himself as they wandered the streets. Eva, Frank, Stevie and Mikey went off on their own to feed. Stevie and Mikey had disappeared with ten minutes of the four of them splitting from the larger group. "Are you all like that?" Frank asked once he and Eva were alone. "Janine has a temper. She sometimes lets that side take over without thinking." "Do you get like that?" "No." "Will I?" "We'll see. I can't give you answers Frank, it's just not what I'm capable of. Every vampire is different. How the react to things, to blood, to other vampires." "Oh." "Besides Janine's little episode. . .did you have fun?" "Yeah. I was dancing with some girls, it felt almost normal." "What wasn't normal?" "They were human and I wasn't." "You'll get used to it." "That's always good to know." They walked in silence as they looked at their options, when Frank spoke up again, "Can vampires get married?" "No, well, I can't say no. I couldn't, but you could. You're fresh...it's less suspicious." "What do you mean?" "I mean, considering I'm quite older than you, for me to get married and them to see my birth certificate-me not looking any older than I do. . . it would cause problems." "Do you want to get married. . .ever?" "It's hard to find a life partner. I know this. Especially if that person is mortal." "You were in love with a mortal?" Frank asked, his voice changed, it sounded as though this was the best gossip he had ever heard. Eva laughed, "Oh no! I have never been in love with a mortal, while I've been a vampire any ways." "Oh. Have you ever been in love with another vampire." ". . .no." "You have too." "I know, but it was so long ago." "How long ago?" "A couple hundred years." "How old are you?" "Old." "But how old?" "Older than you. There for I can boss you around. Now shut up about my age." "Is Stevie as old as you?" "Almost." "So, if I asked Stevie would she tell me?" "No. Girls are private about their ages." "Oh." "Yes." "Where are your siblings, the ones that turned like you?" "I don't know. I heard from one around fifty years ago, he was in Paris." "Oh. Were you there too?" "I was in Paris, but I wasn't living there." "Ah. I wont ever see my family again will I?" "I don't know Frankie. I'd let you, but it's hard because. . .after a while you not looking any different, it'll start to get awkward to explain." "I understand." "I mean, you could, but only for so long. There's only so much that a person can age that well." "I guess you're right." Frank said, as the two stopped. They watched a scene in an alley start to unfold before them. Two males were about to mug some teenage girl. "There is our supper." Eva said approaching the scene. Frank followed quickly. Eva pulled out her gun, both males stopped, the young blonde froze where she against the wall, Eva told her to run. The girl stared at the gun with large blue eyes, fear was freezing her in place. Eva said more firmly to the young girl to run. Finally the blonde took her advice and ran. "It isn't nice to pick on little girls." Eva said, holding her gun firmly still. Frank just watched the scene in disbelief, but tried to maintain a cool outer appearance for the situation. One of the large males took a step forward, Eva sighed and shot him in the knee. Frank jumped at the sudden noise, "He's yours, you're not used to catching your own food yet." She grabbed the other as he made a run for it, Frank just stared in horror as he watched Eva dig her fangs into his neck like it was a peach. She was so gentle with him and then she just became an animal in a second. He thought he might throw up until the scent of blood caught his attention. He looked at the male on the ground clutching his knee, blood was pouring over his hands and onto the dirty ground. By the end of it, both bigger males were laying motionless on the ground. Frank didn't even remember going after the one that Eva shot. She didn't even have a drop of blood on her. She easily picked up the body in front of her and dragged it into the shadows and behind a dumpster. She did the same with the other body. Frank watched Eva's every move, she moved so carefully and slow. Her large blue eyes always looked sad. "You got some blood on your face." She said quietly, before licking her thumb and wiping away some blood that got onto his cheek. She gave him a slight smile before looking down at her shoes, when she looked up again Frank pressed his lips against her own. And much to Frank's surprise Eva kissed him back. He dragged his teeth slitting across her bottom lip, before their tongues met. And as Eva pulled him closer to her, he touched her collar bones, she inhaled sharply and pushed him away. His eyes widened in surprise, he didn't understand, until he realized that he had touched her scar. He hadn't meant to, she looked away from him, before walking out of the alley way. He quickly caught up with her. "I didn't mean to." He said trying to look at her. "It's fine." She replied, touching her neck lightly with her finger tips before tucking her hair behind her ear. "Then why are you walking away?" He asked, struggling to keep up. "We should get back, we fed, that's all we needed to do." She said walking in the direction of where everyone was suppose to meet up. "Why are you scared to let anyone touch you?" "I am not scared to let any one touch me." She said stopping and looking at me. "When I accidentally touched your scar, you acted like I had slapped you." "My scar is different from me. I don't like people touching it." "What are you scared of?" "I'm not scared of anything." She said staring at him, her expression was blank but he was sure if looks could kill he'd be dead in that moment. She turned and walked away. He followed her, but never spoke of her scar or anything else with her. "What happened?" Stevie asked Eva as they walked up stairs. "What do you mean?" Eva asked looking at the red haired girl. "Don't play dumb, you're not good at it. I mean you and Frank. Talk about tension in the car ride home." Eva said nothing as they passed a couple of vampires in the hallway, "I have no idea what you are talking about." She went into her room, and Stevie followed her. "You kissed him." "What?" "His scent is on you. You dirty girl! Why didn't you tell me." "There was nothing to tell." "Liar. What happened to cause you to become uncomfortable?" Eva looked down and shrugged. "He touched your scar didn't he?" "Yeah." "Why are you so uncomfortable about people touching you there?" "Why do you have to talk about this?" "I'm your friend? Friends share secrets. Like. . .Mikey is good in bed." "Stop!" "Seriously, why are you scared about people touching you there?" Stevie asked glancing at her friend.,p> "I don't know, it feels weird, and it just doesn't feel right to have strangers touch it." "What if I touched it?" "I don't know." Stevie walked over to her friend and gently touched her friends scar, "How's that?" "It's okay." "Maybe you just need to be okay with Frank before he can touch you." "I guess." Eva said covering it as much as she could with her tiny hand. "Right, I'm going to go. . .for. . . a walk. Yes, a walk." Stevie said before leaving the room. Eva sighed before changing from her dress into her pajamas. She brushed her teeth before staring at her reflection. She turned away and left her bathroom. She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand before leaving her room. She walked down the deserted hallway and knocked on the door. A moment later Frank answered the door, he seemed slightly surprised to see Eva at his door. He opened it wider and she walked in. "I'm sorry about how I reacted earlier." Eva said slowly. "It's fine." "No, it's not. I overreacted." "It's okay, really." "It's just. . .I don't really know you, and when you touched me there, it scared me. If Stevie touches me there, I'm fine. I don't know why I panicked with you." Eva said quietly, wringing her hands. Frank didn't say anything, he just went and sat on his bed. Eva sat next to him and sighed. "I just came to say I'm sorry." She added looking at him. He looked at her with his own brown eyes, she started to get up with he grabbed her wrist lightly. He couldn't even believe he was going to try this again, she glanced down at his hand before looking at him. He kissed her softly on the lips, he felt her lips not responding, and her body flinch. He started to pull away, when she actually responded. Her lips were as cold as ice, as were his hands. She refused to be scared away by her own insecurities this time. He parted his lips slightly and ran his tongue not on the outside of her bottom lip, but the inside. She grazed his tongue with her own. This was going to be the bold move, he let go of her wrist and touched her scar. She froze under his touch, but willed herself to relax. Both were so wrapped up in each other they never heard the door open, nor did they notice Mikey. Mikey blushed and backed out of the room. "Has Frank seen Eva?" Stevie asked when Mikey returned. "Yes, he has." "Where?" "In his room." "When?" "Now." "No!" "Yes!" Both stood in the hallway and giggled like school girls. "This wont last." Mikey said quietly. "Daniel wont allow it." Stevie said. "Poor Eva, she's finally found someone she's not scared of." Mikey and Stevie distanced themselves from Frank's room and told Daniel she must have left again. They knew it was a lie, and they were pretty sure he knew they were lying, but he was letting it slide. After all, the news he had to deliver to her wasn't going to be good. Chapter 06: You're something beautiful, a contradiction Eva sat in the stiff wooden chair, and nervously wrung her hands. Daniel's servant sat a cup of tea in front of Eva. She smiled and thanked him, even though her hands were shaking so bad she didn't think she could hold the cup. Daniel came into the room, wearing a silk robe with a matching silk pajama set. His slippers made a strange noise on the antique floor rug as he walked to his desk. He sat down gracefully, and took a cup of tea from his servant Edward. "Eva, as you know I have been spending the last week debating with myself of what do with our little. Situation," Daniel started, "And I've come up with a couple of possibilities." "And?" Eva asked. Trying not to let her nervousness show. "Well, there is the option of eliminating you from the household. Or." "Or?" "Or you pick a more dominant male to be your mate." "I don't follow." Eva replied. "If you were to pick a male who is more dominant in powers and traits compared to yours. The other masters really would back off." He replied, with an elegant wave of his hands. "Wouldn't that lead to a challenge?" She asked, finally picking up her tea. "Perhaps, but if it were a male such as. I don't know off the top of my head, someone like Mike's brother Gerard. There wouldn't be much of a fight," Daniel paused to take a sip of his tea, "Don't give me a look, Eva. It's your only chance, and I know you wouldn't like to see Steve and Mike suffer." Eva narrowed her eyes, "Are you honestly suggesting I pick Gerard as my counter part?" "Eva," Daniel said softly, before placing his teacup on his desk, "I am far past suggesting. I am telling you, pick Gerard, or else." "If you tell me what the else is, I'll let you know." Eva replied, she knew this game all to well. "The else is, your precious boyfriend will not be so fortunate." Daniel stated, a growl in the back of his throat. "He's not my boyfriend." Eva replied. "But I know how much it would hurt you if something were to happen to him," Daniel replied with a slight shrug, "Eva, I don't want you hurt. You are very valuable to me. That is why you must push Frank away, and accept Gerard as your partner." "I don't like Gerard." Eva stated. "Eva, I understand. But in this case, it is important for our survival that you do this." Daniel replied, leaving no room for argument. "Very well." Eva said, placing her cup on his desk. She stood up and smoothed out her skirt as she left the dark office. She refused to cry in front of him and his little lackey. Eva didn't know how she was going to do this, but she was sure she would need to avoid Frank in order to muster up all the courage she could to do what needed to be done. Steve watched the entire scene unfold in front of her. Eva avoiding Frank as though he had the plague and Frank trying to follow Eva like a good little puppy. "Eva! Wait up." Frank called out, as Eva walked down the hall ahead of him. Anger filled her, she turned her eyes to Frank, and he stepped back. Her blue eyes resembled some kind of blue fire. "Go away." Her voice was low, but there was a growl present at the same time. He just stared at her, he had no idea what he had done wrong. Everything was great a couple of days ago. Then suddenly it was like Eva had turned on him. It felt like a slap to his face the way she was staring at him. She didn't even bother waiting for him to respond, she turned on her heel and continued down the hall. Once in her room, she took off her jacket and tossed it onto her bed. She went over to her window, and leaned against the windowsill with her arms. She watched the dark cars pull into the driveway. She closed her eyes tight as the expected knock came to her door. She didn't respond as Steve called her to the meeting. She grabbed her jacket and went into the dinning hall; which was currently being used to hold everyone. "You all know why you are here. And if you don't, we are here to discuss the matter of Eva, Steve and Mike and the removal of Vincent." Daniel's voice boomed, taking over every corner of the room. Eva and Steve gripped each other's hands offering one another reassuring smiles. Mike kept his eyes cast downward. "It's very simple. They should be punished for their actions." An older vampire spoke up from Daniel's side. He was easily 600 and some change. But he was clearly handsome. With high cheekbones, strong jaw line, and eyes darker than Eva's. His dark hair spilled over his shoulders in waves. "But do you honestly believe killing them is the answer?" Janine said from her seat on the other side of Daniel. "Then do you have a better idea?" Another vampire spoke. He was easily the oldest looking vampire compared to everyone. His hair was silver, skin pale. He resembled a swan in an odd way. "There's always torture." Janine said, casting a cool glance down to Eva and Steve. Steve let go of Eva's hand in fear she might crush it from the anger building inside of her. Eva looked at Mike who was still staring at the floor. She touched his hand gently, but didn't offer him a smile or any words of comfort. They all knew how screwed they were. "Torture, for a life taken in front of a mortal?" The swan like male asked. "Yes, Gabriel. Make them suffer, killing them would be too easy." Janine replied, with a graceful shrug. "I don't agree with the murder, but nor do I agree with the torture. If they could somehow give us something in return to make up for the fact they killed one of my people. Who is, I mean was under my protection." Gabriel responded. Suddenly Mike was gripping Eva's hand back. She could smell the fear pouring out of him. She knew he was scared that they would kill his brother, which for Mike seemed worse than his own death. "Like what?" Daniel asked. "If we could somehow get them to convince the other house to join this one, the power we could have. No other masters could challenge us." Gabriel replied, he wasn't looking at Daniel any longer. He was staring at Eva with his almost milky blue eyes. Eva looked away, and down at her hands. She knew this had to be the plan all along. The reason Daniel had told her to distance herself from Frank, to ward him off, and finally for her to pick Gerard as her mate. "But he's not a mortal any more. Why does it matter what happened in the past?" Steve finally spoke up. "It matters, because it wasn't in self defense." Gabriel said, his eyes burning into Steve's eyes. "It was in defense. We were defending our house! He was snitching to others, and lying about it to the rest of us." Steve hissed. "And who are these so called `others'?" Daniel asked. Steve glanced at Mike before speaking, "The other house, he told them how the masters would be out of town and that'd it be perfect time for their house to feed, to start taking over." "Liar!" Mike yelled. Eva stared up at Mike, she had never seen him react to anyone like that before, and she was surprised it was Steve at that. "Go ask Gerard! Go ahead Mike! Let him coax you into believing he's a fucking saint." Steve spit back. Mike just stared at her for a few heartbeats before leaving the room. Steve sat still her chair, eyes cast downward. The masters were obviously pleased with the little show just put on. "How do you know this Steve?" Gabriel asked, suspicion clouded his eyes; he didn't bother to hide it. "I overheard people talking." She replied. Eva could tell she was lying. But why? To protect someone? But whom would she need to protect? "Steve, your story is only thing keeping you alive. You can't hold things back." Daniel spoke softly. "Gerard," she said quietly, she looked at Eva unshed tears clouded her eyes, "I'm sorry, Eva. I should have told you." Eva knew exactly what she meant. She was sleeping with Gerard, which was like sleeping with the enemy. "Sometimes we'd meet up, and we'd go to his house. And after wards after he had some wine. . .he'd start talking. And sometimes it'd just be useless talk, but this time I knew he was serious. He threatened me after he realized what he had spoken of." She finished. "Both of you out, we need to discuss this." Daniel said, his accent strong, and his words dangerous. Eva stood up and walked out without waiting for Steve. "Eva. Please, it wasn't supposed to. ." Steve trailed off. She looked helpless. And still Eva just wanted to rip her apart. "Drop it. It's not worth it." Eva replied walking off in search of Mike. He was sitting in the library. His back to the door, he was staring into the fireplace. "I didn't even see it coming." He said, before Eva had a chance to say anything . He looked over his shoulder, a half smile on his face. But it was a bitter smile. Eva went and sat beside him on the couch. She stared at the dancing flames . "No one would have." Eva replied, touching Mike's arm gently. "What ultimatum did they give you?" He asked. "Die or pick Gerard as my mate. They did this before the meeting. They had it all planned out." Eva replied softly. "What are you going to do?" He asked. "Push Frank away as far as possible. Break his heart if I have to." Eva replied before standing up. Frank was waiting in her room, when she found him. He stared at her with lost eyes, and it pained her heart. "What are you doing here?" She asked, narrowing her eyes. "I came to see you." He replied sheepishly. "Trust me. You are the last person who should want to see me." She replied, tossing her jacket onto her bed. She leaned herself against the wall, and suddenly Frank was there. Not like it was a magic trick or anything. She wanted him to hold her close to him, and kiss her. Make her feel like a mortal like he had for the last month. He nuzzled his lips against her cheek, and it took everything in her not to smile, and to not kiss him on the lips and other places. "Stop it." She said, as she walked away from him. "What is your problem?" he finally asked, his eyes turning darker by the second. "My problem? It's you!" She shouted. She couldn't hold back, she had to give it all or he'd never believe it. "Me? What the hell did I do?" He asked. Eva didn't reply, she just turned her back to him. She couldn't break, not like this. She felt his arms wrapping around her body. She clenched her teeth together as she turned in his arms and pushed him like he was a rag doll. He landed on his butt, and stared up at her surprised. "Eva, don't do this." He whispered. Her heart was physically aching. This was the first person she had willingly given her heart to completely. She stared down at him; she tried not to let her tears fall. "Eva. I can change whatever is bugging you." Frank whispered. He got on his knees, and hugged her around her waist. Eva was all he had; after he turned he couldn't go back to his family, or his friends. She became the only thing that was solid. "No you can't." She replied, staring straight ahead. She was refusing to meet his eyes. "I love you." She squeezed her eyes shut, and pushed him off of her, "No you don't. I was just there when you turned, I was just convenient." "No, you don't understand." He said, looking up at her. "No you don't understand! I don't love you! WE.ARE.NOTHING." She was screaming the words at him now. Frank stared at her for a few seconds before his shoulder slumped. He felt as if someone had ripped his heart out, and handed it to him. Eva turned away from him; she couldn't stand to be in the room with him. She could feel his pain, and added onto hers she would have rather gone to the dinning room and asked them to just kill her. Finally not being able to stand the pressure Eva left her room. She wandered the house until she found Steve sitting on the front steps. "Hey." Eva said softly. "How does it feel to be the most hated person?" Steve asked, not looking at her friend. "The worst feeling." Eva replied with a shaky breath. "Exactly. He hates me." Steve said, nodding her head. Her bright red hair moving in soft waves. "He can't hate you any more than Frank hates me." Eva replied, tearing falling from her eyes. "How is it, we managed to piss off the only two people we care about?" Steve asked, looking over at Eva. Eva shrugged, "Because we put our household and us ahead of them." "What happened?" Steve asked. "I had to tell Frank I didn't love him. That we were nothing, and it never meant anything. I had to break him just to save him, and myself." "Now what?" "Now I have to pretend I love Gerard just to save my own ass." Eva replied, looking away from the lawn to her friend. "Why can't you just tell Frank this?" "Because no ones leaving me that option. Because if I do, they'll hurt him. I'm trapped, he's hurt, and no one else in that room cares." "It'll work out." Steve replied. "Really? You didn't see the look on his face. You didn't feel his pain. You weren't there, you didn't see the way I screamed at him, and pushed him. And he kept just wanting to hold me, and convince himself it wasn't even true." "What and you think I didn't hurt Mike when I openly admitted what I had been doing with Gerard?" "You guys have never been exclusive." "Doesn't mean I didn't care about him as much as you do for Frank." Steve replied, in a sharp tone. They just sat in silence for a few minutes, "What kind of person does this stuff to people they love?" Steve asked. "Not people, walking dead." Eva replied before standing up and going into the house. Leaving Steve to sit outside with her own thoughts and worries. Suddenly the door opened, Steve expected it to be Eva. She glanced over her shoulder and it was Mike. He sighed and sat beside her. "About the whole Gerard thing-" Steve started. Mike cut her off, "Whatever. It's fine, I guess." "But I know it's not." "If you even knew that, then it wouldn't have happened." He hissed at her. "You're right. I knew what I was doing, and it was stupid and wrong. And I did it any ways." Steve replied, shrugging off the hurt she felt from his voice. "Why?" "Why not? It's not like we exactly exclusive." "So, because we didn't make ourselves exclusive to one another, that makes it okay for you to sleep with my brother?" "Not when you say it like that." "Then please do say it in a way that sounds so much better." "I can't." She replied after a few moments, she felt deflated. "You amaze me. Really, Steve. I mean, just when I think you are the right one, you go and sleep my brother. And try to justify it, and make it out to be okay. When we both know it's not. It's not okay, and it wont ever be; I may not be able to do half the things mortals can do, but one thing I am capable of still is feeling." He spoke softly, and so serious that it scared Steve. She didn't have a response to this, she couldn't find words that wouldn't sound like she didn't mean. And the sheer idea that perhaps maybe she perhaps could truly care for Mike in the ways that he so expressed. But even if she could express them as in such an animated way he did, she didn't believe it would be enough to repair the damage she had created with her own carelessness. "It's so not like you didn't sleep with any one else." She replied. "I didn't." He said quietly before standing up and leaving Steve to be on her own. She stared at the darkness with her green eyes filled with unshed tears, feeling even worse off. Of course Mike wouldn't have slept with any one else. He wouldn't have gotten made at her if he had, he'd know he wouldn't or shouldn't have room to do so. But she wasn't the only one who was in this kind of pain; Eva, Frank, and Mike were also feeling the aching that wasn't going to let go of them any time soon. The tension in the dinning hall was thick, not even a knife could cut through it. Eva was once again sitting in between Mike and Steve. "It has been debated, and we find the only solution will be for Eva to convince the other household to combine with ours. It is a safety to guarantee that we will be able to control them, and not have them over throw our household," Daniel stated, "We realize there is a risk within the common interests of both groups. But it is a risk we are willing to take to keep us safe, and our bloodline safe. As for Steve and Mike you are free from any punishment, and free from death. That is all." At once the group of fourteen stood up, the less powerful vampires left the room first. And then the elders left soon after for tea in Daniel's office. "Mike." Steve started. "Leave me alone." He replied, disappearing to his room. Eva stood in the hallway with Steve, "Can I stay in your room tonight?" "Sure, why?" Steve asked. "I don't really want to deal with Frank right now. I don't want to have to tell him about Gerard." Eva replied, casting her eyes down on the floor. "I understand. But first we need to eat." "I'm not even hungry." Eva mumbled. "But you'll feel worse if you don't." Steve replied, linking her arm with her friends. Eva let Steve drag her out to her car. Eva waited by the passenger side door for Steve to find her keys and unlock it. Eva looked up at the house, catching a glimpse of Frank staring out the window. She could practically taste the heartache in his eyes. She wasn't sure how long she would last in the charade she was about to start, but she didn't think it was going to be very long since she was going to be living in the same house as Frank. She shuddered at the house when both households combined and she would still have to be with Gerard. |
