Q: How can I submit pictures/wallpapers/avatars etc.?
A: Just go to the menu tab labled "Fansite" and scroll down to the part that reads "Submissions". Then you can choose what you would like to submit, and directions will load for you. Please understand that we can't always post all the wallpapers, avatars and icons that are submitted, but we try to put up as good a variety as possible.
Q: Can I use some of your pictures/wallpapers/avatars etc. on my MCR fansite?
A: Yes, with some restriction. If something you want to use from this site has www.theimmortalityproject.com in the bottom right-hand corner (or anywhere else), please leave it there when you post that image. This makes sure the site receives credit for the images you use from it, and it helps people find TIP! Second, if what you want to use has been credited to someone else, as with the pictures, please be sure to credit them as well. The same goes for any videos or mp3s you might use.
Q: I tried to post a direct link to one of your videos/mp3s and it won't work! Why not?
A: Because direct linking is totally shady. Every time someone clicks on your direct link and comes to the site, it costs us in extra bandwidth. For this reason, we've disabled direct linking. If you want to post a video or mp3, either post a link to the videos/mp3s page, or upload the video to your own server and host it yourself. Thanks!
Q: On the Videos page, some of the files aren't links! Why?
A: Because of the cost of bandwidth, we find it impossible to host all of our videos at one time. We do it on a rotating schedule, changing the large video bundles every month or so. The good thing about the bundles is they each contain several videos, so you can have a lot of videos after just one (long) download. At any rate, anything which is listed but not linked is out of rotation for the time being. If you see something listed that you really want, contact us and we'll be sure it goes up in the next rotation.
Q: Since this one video isn't up, can you send it to me?
A: Unfortunately, that isn't possible. Many of these files are much too big to be sent through Email. Also, downloading videos is what TIP is for; Emailing a video to you rather defeats the purpose ;) But as stated above, if you see something listed that you really want, contact us and we'll be sure it goes up in the next rotation.
Q: When I try to watch the SURS interviews from July, or any .avi file video, all I get is audio. Why?
A: You need to download the divX codec for them to play properly. It can be found at http://www.divxmovies.com/codec. Just download it and install it and all should be well.
Q: Why won't this one video work for me?
A: Usually when a video won't work, it's because you don't have the right player for it. Any video ending in .mov, .mpg, .mpeg or similar plays in a program called Quicktime. Any file ending in .wmv or .asf plays in Windows Media Player. But the ones that really seem to throw everyone off are the .rm files. They play in a program called RealOne Player, which can be downloaded for free here. Just download the 14 day free trial and cancel the premium features at the end of the two weeks. You'll still be able to keep the basic player, and all of TIP's .rm files will work for you.
However, if you have all of those players and a video still won't work for you, please send an Email to problem@theimmortalityproject.com and I'll be sure to have a look at it.
Q: What's up with the Press Library?
A: What's up with it is its extreme awesomeness. The Press Library features full-size readable scans of just about every major article MCR has been featured in since 2003. The scans are all sized to be 800 px across, which is still readable but also small enough to fit conveniently on any size screen. So take advantage of it, it rocks most sincerely.
Q: Where do you find all this stuff?
A: We find our media from a large variety of sources. Pictures are mostly submitted by fans of the website, though occasionally Anna will solicit pictures that are posted on a messageboard, or go to a show and take pictures herself. TIP has grown to the point where people who rip videos often submit them here first, because they know it's the best way to get their videos out there.
Q: I just ripped this really cool MCR video that you don't have! Will you host it?
A: Um, YES! Please go to the Fansite tab and select "Submissions." There will be directions for sending the video there. Thank you! :D
Q: Why haven't you posted such-and-such video?
A: Probably because we don't have it. There are very few MCR videos we have that are not posted. If you'd like to see a certain video go up, find someone to send it to me and we'll gladly post it. Of course, it sometimes happens that no one ever ripped certain television performances. In that case, you're outta luck :(
Q: When I go to the link of some of the videos to watch them, they won't play for me. Why?
A: Okay. We're not mad. I promise. Really, we're not. BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T GO TO THE VIDEO LINK TO WATCH THE VIDEO!!! That's called "streaming", and every single time you do it, it costs us a whole hell of a lot of money. So FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS at the top of the page... Right-Click, then select "save linked file as".
The technical answer to this question is that some files, like .rm files, don't stream.
Q: How do you get a press pass to interview MCR? I want one!
A: The rules are different for every tour. Usually you have to contact the people who are in charge of promotions for that tour, and they'll send you an application for a pass. You'll have to explain what publication you work for, the circulation of the publication, the focus of the publication, etc. You'll also have to provide contact information for the people who run the publication, and after the interview is over, you have to be sure to send them a copy of the coverage you did. In other words, unless you're actually affiliated with a legitimate publication, you probably won't be able to get a press pass. Please do not ask Anna who to contact to get press passes for such-and-such tour. She probably doesn't know, and if she does, she's not allowed to tell you.
Q: I love your site and I'm going to see MCR soon. Can I say I work for TIP in order to apply for a press pass? I'll let you post my interview/pictures...
A: Sorry, no. The rule with press passes tends to be that only one pass or set of passes will be given out per publication. In that case, we're sure you can understand why we at TIP would prefer to conduct our own interviews, rather than having someone else do it for us.
A: Probably. Get a banner or button from the "Link Us" section (Under Links on the Fansite tab) and follow the instructions there. Then send a little note here along with your banner or button.
